Okay, okay - so I know this isn't a "food you eat" post, but technically this scrub is made of food and it's making my life 100x better recently. I've chatted on the blog in the past about why I'm not losing weight for my wedding, and while I'm still firmly committed to that principle, there's three weeks to go until the wedding (WHAT) and some of my attention has turned to beauty prep - really exciting things like remembering to use my teeth whitening strips, scheduling an eyebrow wax, and drinking lots of water to try to curb any impending breakouts. For some reason, this summer has dried my skin wayyyy out and while the water is helping, this scrub is helping even more.

Here's how it went down:

  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
  • 1 cup oats (any kind but steel cut)
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar

  1. Add coconut oil to a microwave-safe bowl and microwave for 8-10 seconds to soften and partially melt.
  2. In a blender or food processor, pulse oats to a fine grain (almost flour-like). Add to bowl with coconut oil.
  3. Stir in brown sugar and mix thoroughly.
  4. Scrub all over and enjoy!

The oats and brown sugar help scrub away any dead skin and the coconut oil leaves you feeling super moisturized. It's a majorly winning combo in my book. I've been using this before my usual body gel/soap in the shower (I do wash off after so the sugar doesn't sit on my skin), but the coconut oil sticks around pretty well through that step so you still get the moisture.

As a side note, I've also been using straight coconut oil on my driest skin (elbows, knees, etc) in combo with my usual lotion and it's helping a ton. For my face I use this scrubber 1-2x per week and just finish with my usual highly complicated Epiduo + moisturizer routine.

So, in summary: make yourself this scrub. Try not to eat it. Maybe make actual oatmeal cookies to satisfy the craving this will give you. Smooth your skin. Rinse + repeat.

Happy Thursday, from my shower to yours!
